摘要：In this talk we shall first discuss the ill-posed nature of the backward heat conduction problem (BHCP) and also will consider the truncation method as regularization so as to obtain stable approximate solutions. We shall also extend the procedure to the general parabolic final-value-problems in the setting of a general Hilbert space, using semi-group theory.

个人介绍：Prof. M. Thamban Nair is a senior professor of mathematics at Indian Institute of Technology Madras in Chennai (Tamil Nadu), India.  Prof. Nair’s research interests include Spectral Approximation, Operator Equations, and Inverse and Ill-Posed Problems.  He has published more than 75 research papers in these areas. He has also published 4 books:
· “Functional Analysis: A First Course”, PHI-Learning, New Delhi, 2002
· “Linear Operator Equations: Approximation and Regularization”, World Scientific, Singapore, 2009.
· “Calculus of One Variable”, Ane-Publications, Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, 2014.

These books are being used either as text books or reference books in many universities in India and other countries.
