The School of Computer Science of Sun Yat-sen University is located in the East Campus of Guangzhou Campus (Guangzhou University City). Its predecessor was the Department of Computer Science established in 1979 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. After more than 40 years of construction, the college has achieved remarkable results in discipline construction, talent training, faculty team, scientific research, etc. The college fully implements the party's education policy, takes party building as the guide, takes the "four aspects" as the guiding ideology, and takes building a solid disciplinary foundation, focusing on strategic frontiers, and promoting industry-university-research-application as the school's policy. It practices "combining science and engineering, and interdisciplinary", and focuses on the development of high-performance computing, architecture and storage, artificial intelligence and unmanned systems, big data analysis and processing, new networks and distributed systems, cloud computing and edge computing, engineering computing software, chip design and EDA software, quantum computing and new computing, computer theory, network and information security, blockchain, computational mathematics and other research directions. Focus on "stuck neck" problems and key areas, enhance the college's ability to undertake major national strategic tasks, and contribute to an innovative country.

I. Discipline Construction
The School of Computer Science has established the first-level discipline of Computer Science and Technology and the second-level discipline of Computational Mathematics. It is integrated with the National Supercomputing Guangzhou Center and the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Computational Science. It owns the "Tianhe-2" supercomputer, which has won the world's "six consecutive championships".
The computer science and technology discipline has reached the domestic A-level and entered the top 1‰ of the ESI global ranking. In the past three years, it ranked 74th in the world in CS Rankings, and ranked 13th in the world in computer vision, the most widely used AI application; it ranked 59th in the world in AI Rankings, and ranked 11th in the world in computer vision.
II. Talent Training
The college has a complete talent training system from undergraduate to master to doctoral. The undergraduate majors include computer science and technology, information and computing science, and confidentiality management, all of which are selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. Computer science is selected as the base of the Ministry of Education's Basic Discipline Outstanding Student Training Program 2.0. It has two postdoctoral mobile stations for computer science and technology and cyberspace security.
The college always adheres to the student growth as the center, cultivates students' learning ability, thinking ability, and action ability, and cultivates high-level compound innovative talents who can lead the future. In order to promote the sustainable development of China's high-performance computing technology and serve the country's major strategic needs, the college has built a high-performance computing talent training system of " three thoughts and four abilities ", and for the first time put forward the professional quality and ability requirements of high-performance computing talents with both moral integrity and ability, and possessing "three kinds of thinking and four abilities". It has established a high-performance computing talent training curriculum system and teaching staff that integrates science and engineering, built a full-chain high-performance computing practice training system, and built the world's largest, open and shared high-performance computing online practice education platform " Supercomputing Learning Hall ".
In order to cultivate talents in key technical fields that are urgently needed by the country, the college has vigorously strengthened the reform of computer education, established the " von Neumann Experimental Class " to strengthen the cultivation of talents in computer system structure and supercomputing engineering software, equipped with excellent full-time teachers, allocated advantageous resources, and cultivated high-quality computer talents. The college also proposed the " Computing * AI + X " innovative computer graduate talent training model, dedicated to cultivating comprehensive graduate talents who effectively integrate parallel computing thinking and artificial intelligence paradigms, and have parallel computing systems, AI algorithm models, and complex application field knowledge, and three levels of full-stack innovation capabilities.
III. Teaching Staff
The college has a strong faculty, including the innovation team in key areas of the Ministry of Science and Technology, experts in the National Key R&D Program, national high-level talents of the Ministry of Education, national high-level leading talents, national 100,000 Talents Project, winners of the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Outstanding Young Scholars and Excellent Young Scholars, "National March 8 Red Flag Bearer Model", various provincial and ministerial outstanding talents, and research teams that have won the National Science and Technology Progress Special Prize, First Prize, Second Prize, and Provincial and Ministerial Special Prize and First Prize. There are 111 full-time teachers, including 43 professors, 65 associate professors, and 3 full-time teachers.
IV. Scientific Research
The college currently has a number of key laboratories and engineering research centers, which have solidly promoted the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation, and helped develop new quality productivity. There are 7 national scientific research platforms such as the National Supercomputing Guangzhou Center and the National Digital Home Engineering Technology Research Center, and 8 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms such as the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Machine Intelligence and Advanced Computing and the Ministry of Education Engineering Technology Research Center for Digital Home.

The college relies on the Tianhe-2 supercomputer and gives full play to the scientific research support role of the National Supercomputing Guangzhou Center and the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Computational Science. It vigorously develops three key directions: high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and big data, and edge and cloud computing, and strives to explore research directions such as quantum computing, metaverse, system structure, information security, blockchain, and space-earth network; implements the college's key interdisciplinary development direction (HPC+Al for Science and Engineering), builds an interdisciplinary platform on this basis, actively organizes teams to overcome difficulties, and explores new ways of cross-disciplinary integration and development of the new generation of AI technology and multidisciplinary.
In the past five years, the college has won more than 10 national, provincial, ministerial and national first-level scientific and technological awards, nearly 20 national key R&D projects and subjects, more than 100 National Natural Science Foundation projects, key national defense projects, provincial major science and technology and key R&D, and many national and provincial innovation teams, with annual research funding exceeding 100 million yuan. The college has published more than 300 conference papers in CCF A-level journals of the Chinese Computer Society and the first zone of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as the first unit.
V. Subject Competition
College students have repeatedly won outstanding results in international and domestic scientific and technological innovation competitions. In the past five years, a total of 1,254 students from the college have won awards in academic and technological competitions at the provincial level or above, including 596 international students, 274 national students, and 384 provincial and ministerial students. In the China International "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, one of the highest levels of the Ministry of Education, it has won 3 gold medals, 4 silver medals and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent Award. The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest has consistently ranked among the top five in the country in terms of comprehensive rankings, and has advanced to the global finals 20 times; in the three major international competitions in the field of supercomputing, SC/ISC/ASC, it won the SC22 Global Championship and the ISC24 Championship respectively; and the 2021 China College Student Programming Contest Finals Gold and Silver Awards.

VI. External Exchanges
The college actively carries out foreign academic exchanges and cooperation, and has established extensive academic exchange relations with many famous universities, academic institutions and scholars in the United States, Germany, Singapore and other countries as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and actively promotes steady progress in discipline construction, talent training, scientific research, etc. It cooperates extensively with well-known companies such as Huawei, Tencent, and ByteDance in student training, co-construction of IT cutting-edge curriculum systems, subject competitions, internship practices, employment and entrepreneurship training, etc.
